  • macOS 26 may not support 2018 MacBook Pros, 2019 iMacs, or the iMac Pro

Apple drops support for older machines not necessarily for technical reasons, but for accounting reasons. When Apple decided to give out OS updates for free, they had to account for the future development cost of sale of the machine.  This is for a pre-determined amount of time after the sale of the machine is discontinued.

Apple most certainly helps out the OpenCore Legacy patcher team which allows users to install the OS on older hardware even though it's no longer officially supported by Apple.

For the most part, it's a viable solution to keep older hardware functional. Of course, the speed of the machine is a limiting factor, and there are occasional features that don't work as Apple strips out support for older platforms.

In a non mission critical environment it's quite amazing.  I've got old iMacs all throughout the house now since they are generally free and get to have a current OS on each machine.  It's pretty awesome.

  • Adobe hikes Creative Cloud prices with a rebrand no one asked for

The danger of building a workflow on subscription or cloud software is that the vendor can decide to jack prices or change the product at any time. You're no longer in control financially, and with cloud service, not even in charge of upgrade timing.  If a cloud service decides to change things up right as you're going to press, oh well. Better learn the new layout and fast.

Of course, it's not just Adobe doing it, and with the subscription there's no longer an excuse to use 10 year old versions of the software, but it's still wildly out of control.

  • Microsoft blew $8.5 billion on Skype only to spend 14 years killing it

From an IT standpoint, Teams has an advantage that it's simply integrated within the Microsoft 365 platform. User and access management then is handled in one place. Add Zoom, now you have more accounts and logins to deal with. Unfortunately, Teams has turned into a hot mess. In Microsoft fashion, it tries to do everything for everyone, but is sloppy at best and just ends up being unusable kludge for most. Even as an experienced computer user, it gets so confusing, I can't imagine how non savy individuals are able to navigate the system.

  • iPhone owners are replacing their devices faster than before

I upgrade to the Pro Max every year. First off my carrier pays for most of it and since my whole life is on my iPhone I want the most up to date security, speed and features( Apple Intelligence is great btw) etc.
The carrier isn't paying squat. They burry the cost of the phone upgrades into your monthly plans. Granted, some carriers just keep you at higher rates even if you don't upgrade, but you ultimately are the one paying for the new phone. It's kind of sad, really because when the iPhone first came out, Apple DIDN'T want carrier subsidies or contracts as part of the purchase. Oh how times have changed.

  • Cupertino wins a battle but loses the war over California's Apple tax ruling

Do all of the other companies doing business in Cupertino get a third of the sales tax charged given back to them??  That seems kind of insane.
